Plastic Surgery Replacing Lifestyle Improvements

Brits are increasingly ignoring advice to tackle lifestyle concerns and are instead turning to liposuction to achieve their desired figure.

According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), 3,086 liposuction procedures were carried out last year, representing an astonishing rise of 90 per cent from 2005. Liposuction is now the third most popular procedure in the UK, up from eighth in 2005.But Rajiv Grover, a consultant plastic surgeon, has warned the general public that it is simply foolish to turn to plastic surgery to correct a weight problem. "It is important to note that liposuction and tummy tucks are not a treatment for weight management or obesity: they are body contouring procedures for patients near or already at their ideal body weight," he added. The BAAPS has revealed that 28,921 surgical procedures were carried out by its members in 2006, in comparison to just 22,041 in 2005.

Genie ten-minute facelift

What is it? A ten-minute facelift that claims to still be working the muscles up to 24 hours later. My treatment concentrated on the eyes and cheek area, but it can also focus on the lips and jawline too.

How does it work? Small pads with electrodes on one side are attached to the face and a charge is run through them to tone and firm the muscles. It's a little like a mini Tens machine for the head and the strength of the stimulus can be varied according to what is comfortable. It did help reduce puffiness around the eyes, and I certainly left looking and feeling less tired - although this could have been the teeth-rattling effect of the current.

Chief Illiniwek mascot creates cheers and jeers

PINE RIDGE, S.D. - Chief Illiniwek may be one concern, but the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign may have other racial problems that need resolution.

The mascot issue has brought attention to underlying racial tension that has impacted American Indian and Latino/Latina students.

In November and December, some posts on a student Web site known as Facebook leveled attacks against at least one Lakota student; other racial slurs there were directed at all American Indians.

It's all about Chief Illiniwek, longtime UIUC mascot. A non-Indian dresses in Lakota-style regalia - not common in Illinois - and performs what many people refer to as stereotypical poses and dance steps during sporting events.

Racist comments on the Facebook site in November and December forced UIUC Chancellor Richard Herman to issue another in a series of letters to university students over racist behavior.

No Plastic Surgery For Aniston

Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - Jennifer Aniston has been in the press recently over two hot topics in Hollywood - girl on girl kissing and plastic surgery.

However, the former "Friends" star says there is little fanfare behind both issues.

It was reported that Aniston had undergone an operation for a nose job, and while she admits she had work down, it was not for aesthetic reasons.

She told PEOPLE magazine exclusively, "It's funny. I had [a deviated septum] fixed - best thing I ever did. I slept like a baby for the first time in years. As far as all the other [rumors], as boring as it sounds, it's still mine. All of it. Still mine."

Of persisting rumors of a boob job, the stunning star said, "Short of letting everybody have a feel, I don't know what else to do.
