Breast implants made of silicone back on US market
In many spots, the factory looks like an especially clean industrial kitchen. Workers are covered from head to toe in surgical scrubs. Stacked on stainless steel rolling trays are mounds of various sizes and shapes, all resembling risen pizza dough. Mentor Corp. has its global manufacturing operations at this 13,050-square-meter factory that is home to the nation's only breast implant manufacturing facility and anecdotally known as one of the augmentation capitals of the US. The recent FDA approval of silicone-gel implants -- ending a 14-year virtual ban -- has far-reaching ramifications in Texas. All made-in-the-USA breast implants begin here, the starting point for nearly a quarter million breast augmentation surgeries a year. The daily grind of making implants might not change much -- but what workers are doing here will affect hundreds of thousands of women a year.
Aniston Says Nose Job Was For Medical Reasons
Yes, Jennifer Aniston got a nose job -- just not the kind of nose job you'd think an actress might get. "It's funny. I had (a deviated septum) fixed -- best thing I ever did," she says, confirming her recent rhinoplasty in an interview posted Wednesday on People magazine's Web site. "I slept like a baby for the first time in years. As far as all the other (rumors), as boring as it sounds, it's still mine. All of it. Still mine." She's hinting at recent tabloid speculation that she underwent plastic surgery to get breast implants. "Short of letting everybody have a feel, I don't know what else to do," she says. "I really am pretty happy with what God gave me." The former "Friends" actress, 37, says she "had a ball" filming the season finale of pal Courteney Cox's FX show, "Dirt." The episode, which airs March 27, shows Aniston's character -- a lesbian magazine editor -- smooching Cox's ruthless tabloid queen, Lucy Spiller." "It's a goodbye kiss," she says.
Ultra mobile PCs to get Vista facelift
Origami, the top-secret Microsoft project that became the Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC), was finally unveiled last March, and devices utilizing the new form factor appeared shortly thereafter. The UMPC is a full Windows PC with a small touch-screen display and a virtual keyboard, and despite issues with short battery life, the early units were impressive. Now, Microsoft has announced a major upgrade for the young UMPC, which it calls the "Origami Experience." The new Origami Experience replaces the old Program Launcher, and sports a fancy new Vista-inspired look. There's more than just a face lift, however, as the new interface has been largely redesigned to make it easier to access with finger presses. The Home screen divides the user's activities into Music, Videos, Pictures, and Programs, and can be returned to with a single touch of the icon in the upper left corner.
