Costs to maintain a pool reviewed by park district
Twenty-one cents a week. Eighty-four cents a month. Eleven dollars a year. Any way you look at it, the contribution from a single Valley property owner to maintain the proposed Big Bear Valley Pool and Aquatics Center is nickels and dimes compared to the cost of other services. According to Reese Troublefield, recreation superintendent for the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District, the estimated cost of maintaining a 17,000-square-foot indoor pool facility is about $231,000 a year. The budget will cover the cost of chemicals, utilities, custodial supplies, and salaries and benefits for maintenance personnel. The maintenance and operations funds are incorporated into a proposed assessment to build the pool. When the construction portion is paid off, the maintenance assessment will continue to be collected on property tax bills.

On the day when much of America will be gathering together for the big game, I'll be watching the Bears and the Colts on a TV that just doesn't measure up. We've got a "big screen" TV, all right. It's even high definition, although ours is no flat-screen model. It's as deep as it is wide and weighs about as much as a defensive back. But with only a 30-inch screen, it just isn't big enough - not when every department store, electronics emporium and discount outlet is touting screens upward of 50 inches. At last month's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, they displayed several models larger than 100 inches. Back when the Super Bowl didn't yet have its name, it wasn't really the national spectacle it is today. But in a few years, thanks to Broadway Joe Namath and the Jets, Lamar Hunt stopping to watch his kid play with a Super Ball and some nifty marketing by the NFL, America sprouted what amounts to another national holiday.
Patient Claims Plastic Surgery Botched
Nine years ago Lora Tangorra-Dinola underwent a procedure she believed would improve her image, but she claims years of physical and emotional pain followed instead. In a lawsuit filed against the doctor that performed her liposuction surgery, Tangorra-Dinola claims the procedure landed her in the emergency room and left her with awful scars. "I would describe them as me going on vacation one year and being on the beach and somebody thought I had a shark attack," she said referring to her disfigured frame. After the procedure Tangorra-Dinola says she was rushed to the emergency room when she went into shock and started losing blood. "I had about three days of excruciating pain, which they couldn't figure out what was going on until they found that possibly it could have been a bad infection that was setting in underneath the skin," she explained.
