Got back? Improve that junk in the trunk

There's no question, firm, voluptuous behinds are in. Workout DVDs promote "Buns of Steel" and "Yoga Buns." Plus-size retailer Lane Bryant and some other stores have replaced flat-backed mannequins with versions that have more junk in their trunks. And recording artists routinely sing about fabulous fannies.

The Grammy-winning Black Eyed Peas hit the charts with "My Hump" and rappers D4L ride high with "Laffy Taffy." (Trust us, they are not singing about sticky candy.) Women can applaud Beyonce Knowles and Jennifer Lopez for making apple bottoms and onion booties - the tiny waists that give way to a sudden burst of roundness - the fashion rage.

If you want to be in this clique, check out these five ways to say goodbye to flat assets.

Has Paris had cosmetic surgery ?

Hotel heiress Paris Hilton has reportedly visited a plastic surgeon in Los Angeles this week in an attempt to correct her drooping left eyelid.

The 25-year-old was allegedly left with muscle damage in her left eye after a botched eyelid lift operation six years ago, and the damage has reportedly been worsened by her fondness for wearing blue-tinted contact lenses over her naturally brown eyes.

Paris, famed for making videos (!) music and a lot of money for not doing a great deal, has had her advisers strenuously deny the story. Her spokesman, Elliott Mintz, said "To the best of my knowledge, Paris has never had any kind of cosmetic surgery and has not mentioned any medical procedures having to do with her eyes."

What a shame that surgeons can’t excise ignorance

Sadly, there is no comparable operation for inner "ugliness"; no machine to suck out ignorance, tuck in prejudice or nip intolerance in the bud. And, somehow, you suspect, even if there were, the queue would still be lengthier for bigger boobs.

Beating the competition by a nose

THE PHILIPPINES may be lagging behind Thailand and Singapore in medical tourism, but it may have an ace that may allow it to beat the competition by a nose.

The Belo Medical Group is targeting the huge Filipino community abroad who may be in need of nose jobs (rhinoplasty), as it joins the governments campaign to encourage people outside the country to avail of the Philippines various medical services.

Rhinoplasty is the most popular cosmetic procedure among Filipinos, especially now that the procedure has become more affordable. Technological advances have also made new noses look natural in Asian faces.

In fact, the Belo Medical Group has already seen, in the last few months, an increase in balikbayan and foreign clients.

Encouraging

We have yet to see a significant influx, says cosmetic surgeon Dr.

Muntazah Park to get facelift

Muntazah Park, perhaps the oldest garden in the city, is being renovated with a new concept, a senior official told Gulf Times yesterday.
Yousuf Khalid al-Khulaifi, director of Public Gardens and Landscaping Department at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, said that the reconstructed garden would feature several new elements such as an aqua garden, skating rink and gazebos.
The 150,000sq m facility used to be two separate gardens until it was closed more than two years ago for a makeover. It used to be open only to “families" and women. The renovated facility was to have been reopened “by the end of 2005" but got delayed for a number of reasons.
When the idea of “doing something new" with the garden came up for discussion, there were a few different suggestions, al-Khulaifi said.
