| Has Hilton Damaged Her Eyelids
Hotel heiress PARIS HILTON reportedly visited a plastic surgeon in Los Angeles earlier this week (begs15JAN07) in a bid to fix her 'drooping' left eyelid. The 25-year-old was allegedly left with muscle damage in her left eye after a botched eyelid lift operation six years ago (01), and the damage has reportedly been worsened by her fondness for wearing blue-tinted contact lenses over her naturally brown eyes. A source tells PageSix.com, "(Her eyes) have been drying out lately. She is ignoring doctors' orders to not wear her tinted contacts." However, Hilton's representative ELLIOT MINTZ denies the rumours, insisting, "To the best of my knowledge, Paris has never had any kind of cosmetic surgery and has not mentioned any medical procedures having to do with her eyes." 19/01/2007 17:10 Also see: PARIS HILTON ELLIOT MINTZ .
Fund Starts Early, Stays For Long Term
When it comes to spotting promising new issues, Lawrence Auriana and Hans Utsch have eagle eyes. But the co-managers of Federated Kaufmann Fund (NASDAQ:KAUFX - News) aren't just keen on hot IPOs. They're also focused on the long term. "We're big players in the IPO market, but we invest in growth stocks that have pioneering business models -- companies that are already profitable," Auriana said. "And we want to be with them for a long time." The managers have longevity of their own. They launched the fund in 1986 with $3 million. Today it has close to 300 stocks with assets of $4.5 billion. The fund has outperformed the S&P index by 40% the last four years. Growth is the fund's main target. "Valuation does mean something, but we will pay high multiples for high growth," Auriana said.
Doctors' Hidden Secrets
JACKSONVILLE, FL-- Marcia Beaird is a flight attendant whose true passion is not travel but instead the outdoors. She loves boating and kayaking, hobbies she can't do anymore. Life stopped for Beaird a year and a half ago when the 46-year-old decided she wanted a change. "It was an easy fix in my eyes and everyone around me was having lipo done," says Beaird. She says she went to a Miami plastic surgeon, Dr. John Tiller. Beaird says she had liposuction done on her stomach and knees. "Everyone said it's so easy you go in and two days later you can be back to flying." Within hours of going under the knife, there were problems. "I was feeling a lot of like a burning sensation behind my right knee." Two days after surgery, Beaird says paramedics rushed her to the hospital.
Anti-aging treatments going skin deep
That facelift that leaves you looking as if you're standing on the prow of a ship in a stiff breeze is so 20th century. True, more than 10.2 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures are performed annually, a number that's increasing by about 10 percent a year, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. "For many, cosmetic plastic surgery is the new take on `growing old gracefully,'" says Dr. Bruce Cunningham, ASPS president. But the types of procedures are changing. For the first time in many years, the numbers of facelifts are declining, he says. Instead, there is consumer demand for minimally invasive, injectable wrinkle fillers that, in theory, combat facial aging, Cunningham says. "I see this whole beauty industry going toward skin.
Plastic Surgery Replacing Lifestyle Improvements
Brits are increasingly ignoring advice to tackle lifestyle concerns and are instead turning to liposuction to achieve their desired figure. According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), 3,086 liposuction procedures were carried out last year, representing an astonishing rise of 90 per cent from 2005. Liposuction is now the third most popular procedure in the UK, up from eighth in 2005.But Rajiv Grover, a consultant plastic surgeon, has warned the general public that it is simply foolish to turn to plastic surgery to correct a weight problem. "It is important to note that liposuction and tummy tucks are not a treatment for weight management or obesity: they are body contouring procedures for patients near or already at their ideal body weight," he added. The BAAPS has revealed that 28,921 surgical procedures were carried out by its members in 2006, in comparison to just 22,041 in 2005.
