What Would You Do For Tickets?

Chicagoist admits that the game wasn't even over yet when we began searching StubHub and trolling Craigslist, hoping to find Super Bowl tickets that wouldn't require selling a kidney or moving back in with Mom & Dad -- especially since Mom replaced the shrine to MJ, Walter Payton and Frank Thomas with a proper guest room. At $3000+, sadly it looks like Chicagoist will be watching the game in front of the TV, just like the rest of you.

Some people, however, have found more novel approached to trying to gain entry to the Super Bowl. One local plastic surgeon is willing to trade services for tickets.

Dr. Omeed Memar said, "I'm willing to offer laser hair removal, I'm willing to offer a year's worth of microdermabrasion, I'm willing to offer what you might need. I am flexible -- it all depends on what seat and where we're talking..." Somehow, we think he might be more likely to get some bites if he'd offer a boob job or liposuction.


Hyatt Regency to have $16.4 million facelift

The Hyatt Regency Lexington is getting a $16.4 million facelift that will make it "the premier convention hotel in the state of Kentucky," Hyatt General Manager Larry Bell announced yesterday.

All areas of the 365-room hotel, located downtown in the same complex as Rupp Arena and the Lexington Convention Center, will be renovated beginning this spring and concluding in mid-2008, Bell said.

Architectural plans for the lobby, restaurant, bars and other public areas are incomplete, but guest rooms will be refitted with Hyatt Grand Beds, mahogany furniture, ergonomic chairs, cordless phones, high-speed Internet access, 32-inch high- definition flat-panel televisions, iHome clock radios with iPod docks and Hyatt Grand Showers in the bathrooms.

One floor will be done at a time so guests will not be disturbed, Bell said.


Facelift for Bokomo Otees

BOKOMO has launched their re-branded range of Otees cereal to the market, and, with the help of Nampak Cartons & Labels, have used packaging to give this brand a boost.

The graphics have been revamped, and the carton has been printed in six colours, with the introduction of a silver metallic ink to the spectrum.

Adding silver metallic ink to the cartons gives them an overall shimmer on the shelf. This effect is achieved by printing the silver first, and applying the solid background colour over it.

"Using metallic inks on cartons makes them far more striking than using conventional inks. Customers used to think that putting metallic finishes on packaging required using laminated foils, or foil-lined board. With the introduction of modern litho machines this is no longer necessary, and metallic finishes can be achieved at a much lower cost," says Ian Vowles, national marketing manager of Nampak Cartons & Labels.


Shampoos may cause breast growth in boys

BOSTON -- Lavender and tea tree oils found in some shampoos, soaps and lotions can temporarily leave boys with enlarged breasts in rare cases, apparently by disrupting their hormonal balance, a preliminary study suggests.While advising parents to consider the possible risk, several hormone experts emphasized that the problem appears to happen infrequently and clears up when the oils are no longer used. None of those interviewed called for a ban on sales.The study reported on the condition, gynecomastia, in three boys ages 4, 7 and 10. They all went back to normal when they stopped using skin lotions, hair gel, shampoo or soap with the natural oils.It's unclear how often this problem might crop up in other young children.These plant oils, sometimes called "essential oils," are added to many health-care products, usually for their scent.


AAA office undergoes facelift

MOUNT VERNON — The inside of the AAA Auto Club on Public Square just got a facelift. Its new design is meant to enhance the experience of the customer.

Bill Purpura, AAA spokesman, said the new office is called an Explore Store and is the fourth of its kind in Ohio. The concept behind the design is to reduce waiting time and to provide easier access to travel information. He said the office now has a more contemporary, more cafe-style atmosphere.

"There are so many things that happen in a AAA office that people don’t realize," he said. "We sell insurance and are a full-service travel agency."

Purpura said AAA came up with the Explore Store design after studying the dynamics in its various state offices.

"The design gives you the ability to walk around and look around," he said.
