Radioactive Seed Better At Treating Prostate Cancer

The results are from a study being released Wednesday in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology.

The study found that more than 90 percent of men who get radiation seed implants for early prostate cancer are cured of their cancer eight years later.

The men in the study have also reported having fewer side effects, like impotence and incontinence, than with other treatments.

Live Oak swim center to get $1 million facelift

The Simpkins Family Swim Center offers more than a place to take a dip. It's turned into a place where people of all ages go to connect with each other.

Also known as the Live Oak Community Center, the popular fitness and recreational spot in Mid-County is in store for a facelift.

County supervisors approved an estimated $1 million of improvements to the swim center this week, including better shower rooms, a poolside playground area and fresher locker rooms.

And if additional funding becomes available, the place may also boast a climbing wall for the deep end of the 50-meter pool, where climbers can fall into the water, said Clark Beattie, recreation superintendent for the county Parks Commission.

The center, at 979 17th Ave., first opened to the public in the summer of 1998 thanks to county redevelopment funds and community donations.

Cameroon: Let's be Serious !

News of the resignation of the head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Arie Haan, came like an unexpected slap on the face.

True, the relationship between the dutch technician and those who proposed him for employment, the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, had not been the best during the last two months. The malaise was made public when the GM of FECAFOOT declared that the coach was "missing". The statement greatly shocked Arie Haan who claimed officials of FECAFOOT knew where he was and were also aware of what he was doing! Despite all these misunderstandings, very few Cameroonians could foresee a resignation of the coach barely a week to a friendly encounter against Togo in Lome and some seven weeks to the resumption of the qualifiers for the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana.
